Meet The Team

Successful Copart Teammates

What Makes Our Teammates Unique

At Copart, we’re pleased to offer a wide range of job roles across our UK Operation Centres including Drivers, Yard Operatives, Loader Drivers and Customer Service Representatives.

Specialist functions that operate from our Wootton HQ and Customer Excellence Centre in Bedford include Claims Settlement, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Sales & Marketing, Vehicle Engineering and Legal.

We’re extremely proud that nearly 900 teammates have been with us for over five years, which we believe is, in part, due to the many opportunities available to train, develop and progress into different roles across our organisation.

To give you a flavour of the diverse range of job roles we have, we’re pleased to share these teammate case studies from different areas of our business.

Mark Copart Transporter Driver

Mark, Driver - Rochford

Mark started working for Copart in 2007 when we acquired the company he was working for as a Driver. Prior to this, he had worked as a coach driver and a vehicle collection driver, so was certainly used to life on the road.

Mark’s initial impressions of Copart were very positive. “Copart came across as a good professional company,” he recalls. “I was previously working in a similar role collecting vehicles so there was not a lot of change apart from the collection locations were more local, providing me with a better work/life balance.” Being based at our Rochford Operations Centre, Mark covers North and East London along with most of Essex and some of Hertfordshire. On average, he says he completes around ten collections/deliveries a day, which equates to around 40-50 vehicles a week.

So, how would Mark describe a typical day? “My hours can be anything from 4am to around 4pm depending on traffic and collections",  he explains. “I normally phone our Dispatcher the day before to find out which area I will be going to, along with any deliveries I may have. On the day, I come into work and collect my paperwork and plan my deliveries and collections accordingly. I then complete my daily walk-around checks on the transporter to ensure it is fit for purpose…and then I am on the road!”

Mark has previously won a Superstar Award (our employee recognition scheme) for coming to the assistance of a fellow Copart driver who had broken down at the roadside. This not only helped to avoid a large recovery charge but also ensured that they both completed their collections for the day, which demonstrated a real sense of team spirit. And importantly, Mark enjoys his job, as he explains “I enjoy the challenge of getting vehicles onto the back of the transporter. Sometimes you can drive them on, however, when you have a badly damaged vehicle it gives me a feeling of achievement when I get it loaded on.”

Paul, Vehicle Licensing Manager - Wootton

Paul joined Copart in 2009 when we acquired the company he was working for as a Loader Operator. He stayed on in the role of Office Manager and then transferred into our Bedfordshire Head Office as Member Financial Services Supervisor, before moving into the role of Vehicle Licensing Compliance Manager.

Paul’s role is to ensure that CAT B vehicles are handled correctly, so he visits CAT B Members continuously throughout the year to check that their licences are up to date and that vehicles are being disposed of correctly. Paul’s role is very important in making sure that all CAT B Members are aware of their responsibilities when purchasing these vehicles and identifying any potential mishandling issues.

So, how would Paul describe a typical day? “Monday is my planning day where I sort out my paperwork, answer enquiries and work out my visits for the week.” he says. “On average I do 4 visits a day. Each can take anything between 10 minutes and 2 hours, depending on how many vehicles the Member may have purchased recently and if they have any issues or concerns they want to discuss. These visits can be anywhere in the UK including Northern Ireland and Scotland.” It’s no surprise to hear that Paul spends most of his time out on the road travelling, often leaving the house at 5.30am, but it doesn’t really faze him.

“I’m an early bird and I like being out in my car driving.” he says. “I probably travel about 40,000 miles a year, and if I am going to see Members in Scotland or Northern Ireland I fly over and stay for about a week.”

Paul has also been recognised for his performance in this role, leading to him winning a Superstar Award for using his expertise and experience to go above and beyond to ensure a vehicle was disposed of correctly. He is typically modest about this achievement though. “I was just doing my job, but it’s nice to be recognised.” he says. “I’m always looking for ways to make improvements and like to come up with ideas to help provide further support to our Members and Sellers.”

Paul Licencing Copart

Vivienne - Copart Sales Manager

Vivienne, Regional Sales Manager

Vivienne joined Copart as a Regional Sales Executive in 2012, as part of a nationwide team providing a service to motor traders across the UK, selling vehicles on their behalf through our online auctions. In 2018, she was promoted to a Regional Sales Manager role.

So, what’s a typical day involve? “No two days are ever the same, but usually start with answering any email enquiries from the Account Managers and our Operation Centres.” Vivienne says.

“I then plan field visits and phone calls to my new Account Managers to ensure that they feel positive about their performance and are given a strong foundation with good knowledge and training.”

And it’s not just new teammates that Vivienne focuses on. “I am continually identifying areas where existing team members need any additional guidance. Providing the necessary support to help improve their performance will enable our ever-expanding team to continue going from strength to strength”.

The role can be challenging, especially with a team so widely spread across the country, but Vivienne still finds her role as exciting as she did the day she joined. “It’s always incredibly rewarding to see great sales figures coming through from the team and it makes me very happy if I can coach my team to realise their full potential and be successful.” she says.
