What are Category B vehicles?

Category B (often shortened to 'CAT B' break only) vehicles are cars, motorcycles, trucks, vans, buses (and any other type of motor vehicle) where the structural damage is deemed so severe that the vehicle’s chassis and structural frame are not permitted to return to the road. However, parts from the vehicle which have not been severely damaged can be removed from the vehicle and re-used in others. After salvageable parts have been removed, the chassis of the vehicle must then be crushed by an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF).

Due to the extent of damage to such vehicles, it is a legal requirement that only ATFs can handle Category B vehicles, as they would pose a serious risk if returned to the road. Copart will only allow Members to bid on Category B vehicles once all relevant documentation (to prove that you are permitted to buy, store and destroy Category B vehicles) has been shown and accepted.

The laws and regulations surrounding the purchase of Category B Breaker vehicles can be complex.
